We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Electrical Contract Manager to oversee and manage contracts within our organisation. The Electrical Contracts Manager role includes overseeing projects from inception to completion, ensuring high-quality electrical work, adherence to safety standards, and successful financial and operational delivery within a company.
Key responsibilities include:
Managing staff and subcontractors, controlling costs and budgets, ensuring health and safety compliance, and managing client relationships and contractual agreements to meet project goals and client requirements.
- Project delivery: Planning, implementing, and managing projects from initial design and costing through to final completion and handover.
- Team leadership: Managing and mentoring a team of electricians, site supervisors, and subcontractors.
- Budget management: Controlling project costs, managing variation accounts, and maximising profitability.
- Tendering and estimating: Preparing tenders and providing estimates for new work and proposals.
- Client relations: Acting as the main point of contact for clients, liaising on progress, and ensuring client satisfaction.
- Compliance and quality assurance: Ensuring all work complies with the latest wiring regulations (e.g., the 18th Edition), safety standards, and project specifications.
- Documentation: Creating and updating project documentation, such as risk assessments, method statements (RAMS), and Operation and Maintenance (O&M) manuals.
- Progress monitoring: Tracking project progress against timelines and reporting to senior management on milestones, risks, and financial performance
The Electrical Contracts manager must have:
- Electrical knowledge: In-depth technical knowledge of electrical systems, wiring regulations, and installation practices.
- Project management: Strong organisational, planning, and problem-solving skills to manage complex projects effectively.
- Commercial acumen: Excellent financial and commercial awareness, including experience with budgets, cost control, and contract administration.
- Communication and leadership: The ability to lead and motivate a team, build client relationships, and communicate effectively with all stakeholders.
- Negotiation: Skill in negotiating contracts with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Industry experience: At least 5–10 years of experience as a qualified electrician or electrical project manager.
- Electrical qualifications: Relevant trade qualifications such as an NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation and the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
- Testing and inspection: A certification such as City & Guilds 2391
- Health and safety: A management-level health and safety qualification like the Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS).
- Academic qualifications: While not always mandatory, a Higher National Diploma (HND) or degree in electrical engineering or building services can be beneficial.
- IT proficiency: Competence with software for project management, data handling, and general office tasks.
